OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

 

(1) SUBMISSION OF A COMPLETED APPLICATION, INCLUDING A STATEMENT OF REVENUE AND (2) AN ENTRY FEE OR CHAMBER MEMBERSHIP, IS REQUIRED TO ENTER. MEMBER STATUS WILL NOT EFFECT JUDGING.

1. SPONSOR: The Official Presenting Sponsor (“Sponsor”) of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Contest (“Contest”) is Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, located at 200 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10166.

2. ADMINISTRATOR: The Official Administrator (“Administrator”) of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Contest (“Contest”) is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, located at 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20062.

3. AGREEMENT TO OFFICIAL RULES: Participation in this Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Contest Rules, the Administrator’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to this Contest. Eligibility to win a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

4. HOW TO ENTER: The Contest is open to businesses who:

  1. Complete an application for consideration of their business for the Dream Big Small Business of the Year award. The application may be completed online here.
  2. Submit proof of business revenue along with completed application;
  3. Submit an entry fee payment along with the application. Entry fees are waived for U.S. Chamber of Commerce members and $25 for non-members; and
  4. Must be able to attend America’s Small Business Summit 2017

5. SCHEDULE: The Contest begins on Monday, April 10, 2017 and ends on Friday, May 31, 2017. All online entries must be received by 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Applications submitted outside these time periods will not be accepted for consideration. It is each applicant’s responsibility to observe time zone differences.

6. ELIGIBILITY: This Contest is open to small businesses with 2015 and 2016 annual revenues of less than $20 million per year and having less than 250 employees at time of entry. Individuals who are owners or co-owners of a small business or hold a majority interest in an eligible small business may apply. Such individuals must be of the age of majority in the state where they reside as of the closing date of the Contest and legal residents of a state or the District of Columbia in the United States of America. Employees (and their immediate family members and members of the same household) of the Sponsor or Administrator and their affiliates, agents, advertising or promotion agencies are not eligible to participate in this Contest. Also, pursuant to Congressional and Executive Branch ethics rules, Members of Congress, Congressional staff members, Executive Branch officials and their staff members are not eligible to participate in this Contest. All winners in this Contest must meet these and other eligibility requirements to receive any prize.

7. SELECTION OF WINNER: One (1) winner will be selected to receive the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award. One (1) winner will be selected for each Business Achievement Award category. The selection process is as follows: A panel of judges comprised of Administrator staff will select a first-round of semi-finalists in consideration for each sub-award category and the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award from all entries received. These semi-finalists will be notified of their selection in May 2017. A second panel of judges comprised of Administrator executives will select finalists from the pool of semi-finalists, resulting in the selection of eighteen (18) finalists in consideration for each of the five (5) Business Achievement Awards and the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award. Finalists will be notified of their selection in June 2017. A final judging panel of Administrator executives and senior staff will select one (1) finalist as the winner of each Business Achievement Award and the Dream Big Small Business of the Year of Award. Finalists can be selected as a winner for only one (1) award. Only the winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award will receive a cash prize. The winners of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year and Business Achievement awards will be announced on September 12, 2017 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Summit event (“Event”). Odds of winning depend on the number of qualifying and complete entries received. Each of the eighteen (18) Business Achievement Award finalists will be entered in to an online ballot in consideration for the Community Excellence Award at www.uschamber.com/dreambig. Online voting will allow the people who know a company best—its customers, employees, and neighbors—to cast a vote for their favorite business. A panel of judges will select the final award winner using an evaluation process based on three primary criteria: community leadership, community engagement and contribution to the economic development of the community. Each business’ score will be combined with the online voting total to reach a final judging score. Online voting total will only account for 30% of a business’ final score. 70% of the final score is determined by judges’ evaluation. The small business with the highest, final score will be selected as the winner of the Community Excellence Award. The award announcement will take place on September 12, 2017 at the Event.

8. PRIZES:

The winners of the Business Achievement Award categories shall each receive the following:

  • One-year paid U.S. Chamber of Commerce Membership
  • Recognition and Crystal award presentation on stage during the Dream Big Awards Celebration
  • One (1) complimentary registration for the Summit
  • Two-night hotel stay at the Omni Shoreham Hotel during the Small Business Summit
  • Discounted registration of $300 for any additional registrants affiliated with the company
  • One-minute promo video played during the Dream Big Awards Celebration during America’s Small Business Summit
  • Web sticker to display on company web site

The Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award recipient shall receive the following:

  • $25,000 cash prize
  • One-year paid U.S. Chamber of Commerce Membership
  • Recognition and acceptance speech on stage during the Dream Big Awards Celebration
  • One (1) complimentary registration for the Summit
  • Two-night hotel stay at the Omni Shoreham Hotel during the Small Business Summit
  • Discounted registration of $300 for any additional registrants affiliated with the company
  • One-minute promo video played during the Dream Big Awards Celebration during the Small Business Summit
  • Web sticker to display on company website

All non-cash prizes are non-assignable and non-transferable, and are not redeemable, exchangeable or substitutable for cash. Award winners will receive reimbursement of registration payment(s) immediately within 30 business days following the conclusion of the Event.

9. TO CLAIM PRIZE: Finalists must be present in person at the Event held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street, NW, Washington, DC, on September 11 – 13, 2017. Winners will be required to sign a Winner Affidavit and Release form provided by Sponsor to claim the prize. Winners receiving prizes totaling $600 or more will be required to complete and sign IRS Form W-9, including winner’s taxpayer identification number. Winners agree to permit Sponsor and its affiliates to use their name, likeness, address, and prize information for promotional purposes in any medium without any additional compensation or permission required to the extent permitted by law.

10. MISCELLANEOUS: All applicable taxes, federal, state and local, and other expenses associated with the prize unless otherwise stated herein are the winners’ sole responsibility. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. No other substitutions of prize permitted.

11. DELIVERY OF PRIZE: The prize will be presented to the winner during the Event on September 12, 2017.

12. GENERAL: This Contest and these Official Rules will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia, U.S.A. Entrants consent to the jurisdiction and venue of the federal, state, and local courts located in the District of Columbia. This Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law and is subject to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. The Sponsor and its affiliates are not responsible for and disclaim any liability for late, lost, stolen, damaged, incorrect, incomplete, illegible, postage due, garbled, misaddressed, or misdirected delivery of prize to winner. Administrator reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant if his or her fraud or misconduct affects the integrity of the Contest. By participating in this Contest, each entrant accepts the terms and conditions stated in these Official Rules, agrees to be bound by the decisions of the judges, and warrants that s/he is eligible to participate in this Contest. By accepting the prize awarded, each winner agrees to release Sponsor, its affiliates, and their respective directors, employees, officers, assigns and agents, including without limitation, their advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all liability, loss or damages arising from or in connection with the awarding, advertising, receipt, and/or use or misuse of prize, participation in any prize-related activities and in this Contest.

13. ONLINE ENTRIES: Administrator shall not be responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures of any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access any online service or website, inability to submit the online entry form, or any other error or malfunction, or any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this Contest, or for late, lost, stolen, postage due, illegible or misdirected entries. If this Contest or any website associated therewith (or any portion thereof) becomes corrupted or otherwise does not permit entry in the Contest, or if infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, actions by entrants, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes, in Administrator’s sole opinion, corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper operation of the this Contest, Administrator reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant implicated in such action, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Contest or any portion thereof.

14. CAUTION. ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS PROMOTION IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

15. WINNERS’ LIST: For a list of winner names, send a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (S.A.S.E), received by August 28, 2017 to: Attn: Catherine Lovett, Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award Contest, United States Chamber of Commerce, 1615 H Street NW, Washington, DC 20062. A list of winner names will not be mailed until all winners have claimed their prizes according to the terms of these Official Rules.
